Mumbai News Live Updates, May 28, 2024: The Western Railway on Wednesday has cancelled or rescheduled several trains following the derailment of a goods train at Palghar railway station and the restoration work is on more than 15 hours after the incident, officials said. Seven wagons of the goods train derailed at Palghar, located around 100 km from Mumbai, at 5.08 pm on Tuesday, affecting the traffic of Mumbai-bound trains coming from Gujarat, a railway spokesperson earlier said here, PTI reported.
Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Manmad and Bhusawal have closed two criminal cases against five madrasa teachers arrested in May 2023 and jailed for four weeks on charges of trafficking 59 children from Bihar to Maharashtra allegedly for child labour. GRP officers said the cases were closed in March this year after they concluded that the FIRs were lodged due to a “misunderstanding”.
In other news, Complaints pertaining to air pollution in Mumbai city have gone up by 305 per cent over the past five years, according to a report published by the Praja Foundation on Tuesday. According to the report, the city’s air quality has also deteriorated by 22 per cent between 2019 and 2023. The report procured data from the BMC’s centralised complaint registration system (CCRS), where citizens lodge complaints on civic issues like pollution, solid waste management, drainage and water supply.
