In a startling incident aboard an Air India Express flight from Kozhikode to Bahrain, a 25-year-old man, identified as Abdul Musavir Nadukandee, was arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly assaulting cabin crew members and attempting to open the aircraft’s door mid-flight. The disruptive behavior led to an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Saturday, June 2024.
The ordeal began when Nadukandee, a resident of Kerala, abruptly woke up after the flight took off from Kozhikode. Witnesses reported that he immediately proceeded to the back of the aircraft, where he allegedly physically assaulted cabin crew members and made an attempt to open the aircraft’s door, posing a serious threat to the safety of passengers and crew on board.
Despite efforts by the cabin crew to restrain him and return him to his seat, Nadukandee reportedly continued his erratic behavior, verbally abusing and assaulting other passengers. His threats to open the emergency door further escalated the situation, prompting the pilot to take decisive action.
In response to the escalating security threat, the pilot made the decision to execute an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai. Upon landing, security personnel were immediately alerted and took control of the situation, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew on board.
Following the incident, Mumbai police arrested Nadukandee, and a case has been filed against him under various provisions of the Aircraft Act and the Indian Penal Code. Charges include voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, acts endangering life, and provocation to breach the peace.
