ED Charges K Kavitha with Alleged Kickback Scheme in Delhi Liquor Policy Case

In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has leveled charges against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, alleging her involvement in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy. The exclusive details accessed by India Today reveal startling accusations of a purported kickback scheme involving Kavitha and members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership, amounting to Rs 100 crore.

According to the ED’s chargesheet, K Kavitha is accused of conspiring with the so-called ‘South Group’ and AAP leaders to orchestrate kickbacks and secure undue benefits under the Delhi liquor policy. The probe agency claims that Kavitha was instrumental in the generation, acquisition, and utilization of proceeds of crime totaling a staggering Rs 292.8 crore.

The accusations don’t end there. The ED further alleges that Kavitha received illicit proceeds amounting to Rs 5.5 crore from Indo Spirits under the guise of her associate, Abhishek Boinpally. This revelation adds a new layer to the unfolding scandal, implicating Kavitha in a web of financial irregularities and clandestine transactions.

Moreover, the chargesheet asserts that Kavitha actively participated in deleting evidence and erasing the contents of her mobile phones to obfuscate her role in the illicit activities. The ED claims that nine phones submitted for examination by Kavitha were found to be formatted and devoid of any data, raising suspicions about her attempts to conceal crucial evidence.

During interrogation, Kavitha reportedly remained evasive and failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the formatted phones, further deepening the investigators’ suspicions. The ED also alleges that Kavitha engaged in acts of influencing witnesses, as evidenced by attempts to coerce an associate into retracting statements made to the authorities.

The judicial proceedings in the case saw Kavitha’s custody extended until July 3 by a Delhi court, following her appearance before the Special Judge Kaveri Baweja. Kavitha’s arrest by the ED from her residence in Hyderabad and subsequent detention by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Delhi’s Tihar Jail underscore the gravity of the charges leveled against her.

The allegations against Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, raise serious concerns about the integrity of political and bureaucratic systems. The ED’s investigation into the loopholes in the Delhi liquor policy sheds light on the pervasive influence of corruption and kickbacks in policymaking and regulatory frameworks.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the spotlight remains firmly on Kavitha and her alleged involvement in the sprawling scandal. The outcomes of the ongoing investigations will not only determine her fate but also have far-reaching implications for accountability and transparency in governance.
